Martha Williams-McMurrian, an Arkansas resident who supports legislation in her state encouraging public school Bible courses. The Texas Freedom Network Education Fund released a report last week documenting serious flaws in such courses in Texas public schools, including religious and anti-Jewish bias and even the promotion of Bible story interpretations some have used over the centuries to defend slavery and racism.

TFN President Kathy Miller, on legislation filed by Texas state Rep. Jonathan Stickland, R-Bedford, which would give state tax breaks to any company that the federal government fines because the company won’t cover contraception as part of its health insurance.

I think it’s outrageous that the state of Texas would subsidize the practice of allowing the religious beliefs of corporation owners to dictate the private health care decisions of their employees. This just demonstrates that the full blown war on birth control that the Legislature declared last session has not abated.
