Here are some of the week’s most notable quotes culled from news reports from across Texas, and beyond.
President Obama, referencing marriage equality Monday in his second inaugural address.
Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law.

Joseph Bast, president and CEO of the Chicago-based Heartland Institute, a group that advocates for private school voucher schemes, acknowledging that no government entity in Texas has ever agreed with his rosy assessment that vouchers would save the state money.
Apparently.

Martha Williams-McMurrian, an Arkansas resident who supports legislation in her state encouraging public school Bible courses. The Texas Freedom Network Education Fund released a report last week documenting serious flaws in such courses in Texas public schools, including religious and anti-Jewish bias and even the promotion of Bible story interpretations some have used over the centuries to defend slavery and racism.
God should never be taken out of the schools.

TFN President Kathy Miller, on legislation filed by Texas state Rep. Jonathan Stickland, R-Bedford, which would give state tax breaks to any company that the federal government fines because the company won’t cover contraception as part of its health insurance.
I think it’s outrageous that the state of Texas would subsidize the practice of allowing the religious beliefs of corporation owners to dictate the private health care decisions of their employees. This just demonstrates that the full blown war on birth control that the Legislature declared last session has not abated.
