Beck: No ‘Half-Monkey, Half-Human’ Out There!

Glenn Beck on the radio today, rejecting evolutionary science (audio clip from Media Matters):

“I don’t think we came from monkeys. I think that’s ridiculous. I haven’t seen the  half-monkey, half-person yet. Did evolution just stop? … There’s no other species that is developing into half-human?”

That argument sound familiar? You might recall that Texas State Board of Education member Ken Mercer claimed during the debate over public school science curriculum standards that the lack of a “dog-cats” and “cat-rats” was proof against evolutionary science.

  1. I think if we can find the half-person, half-monkey, evolution would be a lot easier to prove.
I’m going to take a break from the keyboard and go and have a look.
    See ya, wish me luck.

  2. Hmmm. I don’t think there’s there’s a Half-Glenn-Beck/Half-me out there, either, but that doesn’t prove we didn’t have a common ancestor way, way back in time (to my perpetual embarassment).

  3. When will Fox drop this TV shock jock?
I”ve removed Fox from my web browser favorites, I used to check the Fox website daily to see what their spin of the day was, I just can’t do it anymore.
I have to find out who advertises for that show, and stop buying those products.
My microscopic contribution to stop this insanity.

  4. The Christian fundamentalists have no understanding of evolution and have no desire to learn anything about it because they know a priori that it must be false. To them it is like being invited to a seminar to explain why the spelling for a country in North American is “Mexico. They know it is really spelled “Mexicowe,” so why would anyone want to show up? The idea of cat-dog shows that they know nothing about it. Or, as the Bible says, “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.” By fools, I do not mean people who do not believe in God, which is the traditional Biblical definition of “fool.” By fool, I mean stupid people.

  5. Some of you will recall that the University of California declined to admit some home schooled kids because they had an inadequate biology background based on creationism and intelligent design. Naturally, the families of the kids took it to court, and it went all the way up the chain to the U.S. Supreme Court. As the article below notes, the current conservative-dominated U.S. Supreme Court just told the parents, kids, and their case to “take a hike.” The court will not hear their case, which means that the rulings of the lower courts will stand.

    Next sound heard off stage:

Crying and wailing about an “activist” U.S. Supreme Court, even though it is dominated by conservatives.

Now, I am going to throw a hand grenade into the middle of all this. As many know, this same U.S. Supreme Court is also dominated by Catholics. The Roman Catholic Church made peace with Darwin and evolution long ago. Will we now hear crying and wailing from off stage about religious prejudice from the high court by apostate Catholic judges who despise the beliefs of “true” Christians?

    How I feel about it:

Mr. Carlin meet Mr. Beck. Mr Beck……………..

  7. Charles, thanks for providing the link on the Supreme Court case. I didn’t know about it. It’s a positive development, indeed.

  8. One could say Glenn Beck is “half-baked” but actually he hasn’t even begun to bake.

Charles Donaldson: Fox will never drop Beck as long as he’s getting the high ratings he’s getting.

  9. @ James Breck: Your quote from the late great George Carlin makes me laugh like Charles’ video. Thank you, Charles & George!

Charles, to answer your question: YES! Religious fundies don’t believe Catholics are truly Christian. (Didn’t we see this argued from their point of view right here a few weeks ago?) They believe Catholics are heretics at best. A lot of them believe Catholics are linked to Satan to a greater or lesser degree.

The decision of the Supreme Court will only confirm their weird fears.

  10. Cytocop you might enjoy this one as well.
