TFN President: Politicians Are Using the Transgender Discrimination Bill to Sow Hate and Division in Texas

Rejecting SB 6 Would Be a Proud Moment for Texas

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Texas Freedom Network President Kathy Miller has the following statement on today’s hearing on Senate Bill 6 in the Texas Senate State Affairs Committee. SB 6 would discriminate against transgender people seeking to use restrooms in public schools, universities and other government buildings.

“Let’s be clear about what is really going on here – politics. At a time when Texas faces so many important challenges, from funding public schools to health care, Lt. Gov. Patrick and other politicians are cynically using this bill to spread hate and sow division in our state. But it’s going to backfire on them. I believe Texans are going to reject this bill and show the world that we do not support discrimination – that we believe in treating everyone in our state equally, fairly and with the dignity we all deserve. This is going to be a proud moment for Texas, not an embarrassing surrender to fear and bigotry.”
