TFN has always fought for Texas school children at the SBOE. But our work would be impossible without the dedication of volunteers who sign up to testify, recruit others to testify, organize at local school board levels, and respond to our various calls to action. While our fight at the SBOE is far from over, we recently sat down with two super volunteers for a brief chat. This is the first installment of a running series. […]
LGBTQIA+ Rights
In the last decade, the fight for LGBTQIA+ equality has made incredible progress. Marriage equality is now the law of the land and workplace discrimination on the basis of sex includes protections for gender identity and sexual orientation. However, the fight for true LGBTQIA+ equality is far from over. Texas still has no statewide law protecting LGBTQIA+ people from discrimination meaning people can be denied a place to live or refused service at a business simply because of who they are or whom they love.
Today, far-right extremists and politicians continue their attacks on LGBTQIA+ Texans, especially transgender children and adults. Their hate is loud. But our love is louder.
We at TFN will fight for the LGBTQIA+ community at every turn, because our vision is a Texas that’s truly for all.

What Pride Means to Us
It’s Pride Month, and we sat down with three Texas Rising student leaders to talk about what Pride means to them, how the work of TFN and Texas Rising fights for queer liberation, and finding community and acceptance in a state where LGBTQIA+ rights are under constant attack. Pride is still a protest–but young progressive leaders like Mireya Garcia, Ric Galvan, and José Pablo (JP) Rojas remind us that there’s so much to celebrate as well. […]
Gender-Neutral Abortion Language: Because ALL people with uteruses need abortion care!
Everyone with a uterus can become pregnant and needs access to abortion care, as well as the full spectrum of reproductive healthcare. Using inclusive, gender-neutral language, like “people seeking abortions,” instead of “women seeking abortions,” when talking about abortion is just one way to ensure LGBTQIA+ people are represented in the reproductive justice movement and face less stigma when accessing abortion and all forms of reproductive healthcare. […]

It’s Time to Have “the Talk” this Sex Ed for All Month
Fellow Texans, it’s time for “the talk.” May is Sex Ed For All Month, and TFN is not new to giving Texans the lowdown on sex ed in our public schools. For years, we’ve used our #TeachTheTruth: Accurate Sex Ed campaign to advocate for comprehensive sexual health education that’s medically accurate, free of shame and judgment, and addresses the needs of all young people, regardless of their race, gender identity, or the zip code they live in.
