‘Sexualizing the Military’

That’s the headline in a disgusting e-mail blast sent out today by Free Market Foundation the newly renamed Liberty Institute, the Texas affiliate of the far-right organization Focus on the Family. The e-mail criticizes calls from President Obama, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen, and former Secretary of State and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Colin Powell to end the military’s ban on openly gay and lesbian service members. The terribly misnamed “Liberty Institute” calls the proposed repeal an “attack on our military” and “social experimentation.”

Yet as the e-mail makes clear, military leaders themselves have called for repeal. Are those leaders attacking their own military? Really? In addition, polls show that a large majority of Americans also supports repealing the ban. So do most Americans hate the military?

Leave it to far-right pressure groups to viciously attack our nation’s military leaders and other opponents of mindless discrimination against gay and lesbian Americans who want to serve their country in a time of war. That’s because far-right extremists care more about using hate to divide Americans for political gain (and fundraising) than in truly promoting liberty. That’s deeply shameful and a slap in the face of truly patriotic Americans.

  1. This is an issue that John “the fundamentals of the economy are strong” McCain and beady-eyed microencephalic Jeff Sessions are going to lose.
Those right-wing evangelical dumba***s are going to embarrass themselves over this one too.
We can’t afford to be wasting millions on this stupid policy and putting national security at risk. It would be cheaper to discharge all the backward crybabies instead.
There’s no difference between this issue and the issue between men and women who are serving together. There’s a code of conduct that can handle this issue just fine.

  2. This is really odd. If “don’t ask/don’t tell” is really keeping gay people from entering the military, I would think the Liberty Institute would be pleased with a repeal. This means that many more gay people would enter the military, and many more would be killed in combat. After all, if homosexuality is a simple choice that it is an abomination before the Lord and the Biblical penalty is death (which as good Christians they no doubt believe should be enforced as a matter of criminal law), why would they be opposed to instituting a policy that would clearly produce one of their most desirable moral outcomes? Can someone explain that to me?

  3. Double plus good! Remember; Freedom is Slavery!

Our military leaders should be able to make their own decisions, without civilians, like Obama and the like, telling them how to fight our wars, unless the military leaders take a position we don’t like. Then, they’re gay-enablers, and once we’ve enacted laws that make homos illegal, we’ll need to round up all the generals and throw them in jail too.

Then, Chucky Colson can get their minds right…right with God!

  4. The far right hates Gays so much that they would even go do low as to demonstrate hate for our own military (only the best in the entire world).

Can’t we just get over this already. We’re here, we’re queer, get used to it. Stop the hate and just take a deep breath and move on.
