Putting Chains on Stem Cell Research Would Hurt Texas Families and Economy

Texas Freedom Network Statement on Passage of Texas Senate Bill

April 1, 2009

Texas Freedom Network President Kathy Miller is releasing the following statement on the Texas Senate’s passage tonight of a state budget bill that would restrict embryonic stem cell research in Texas:

“It’s disappointing when politics gets promoted over hope for families struggling with serious medical conditions like Parkinson’s disease and cancer. Just as bad is that Sen. Ogden’s rider puts obstacles in the way of promising medical research that is also important to growing our economy in the 21st century. While other states are moving ahead with this promising, cutting-edge research, too many politicians are trying to slam the door shut on hope for families and economic progress in Texas. We call upon the Texas House to stand firm in defense of families searching for hope.”

The Texas Freedom Network is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization of religious and community leaders who advance a mainstream agenda supporting public education, religious freedom and individual liberties.

Texas Civil Rights Project

The supporters of #HB6 and #SB7 challenged people to “read the bills and point to voter suppression.” Today, 63 civil rights orgs have gladly accepted that challenge & are releasing two joint statements outlining some of the sections that would harm voters the most #txlege pic.twitter.com/qvox…
