As the far right continues to force their own beliefs into the classroom, from the State Board of Education to the Texas Legislature, we’re hearing one anti-American claim again and again: the separation of church and state doesn’t exist.
Christian Nationalists aren’t just ignoring our founding fathers, they’re going through ridiculous lengths to question our founding principles entirely. At a board meeting in April, SBOE Member Julie Pickren challenged someone who came to give testimony on the idea:
“You mentioned the separation of church and state, which by the way, is not in the United States Constitution,” Pickren said. “But are you aware that where it does appear is the Communist Manifesto, chapter two of the Communist Manifesto, removing the Bible from public education?”
