WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court rejected a lower court appeal Thursday, ensuring continued access to the abortion pill Mifepristone by mail.
The decision, blocking a ruling by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, prevents any disruption of availability to the drug as litigation continues. The emergency request was granted to drugmakers, putting the lower ruling on hold.
Texas Freedom Network President and Executive Director Felicia Martin (she/her) issued the following response:
“This ruling is far from a lasting win, but for now, wisely protects the patients who are depending on this drug across the country. As reproductive rights remain under dire threat, we must remain vocal in defending their critical access and ensure everyone is able to make their own private medical decisions without government interference. While anti-abortion extremists want to make that harder for everyone, we are relieved that such a safe and effective drug will remain available to Americans as the Supreme Court continues to deliberate.”
