During last week’s debate over a resolution attacking Islam, Texas State Board of Education member David Bradley, R-Beaumont Buna, once again insisted that the Constitution doesn’t protect separation of church and state. The proper response was:
Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes said: “The constitution is what the judges [of the U.S. Supreme Court] say it is. Throughout American history the judges on the High Court have held that separation of church and state is in there. Therefore, if you are unable to see those two words in your copy when they can, I would submit that you, Mr. Bradley, are deeply and fundamentally blind.”
Great article in this month’s “Smithsonian” magazine outlining the separation of church and state as determined by Jefferson and Madison. Particularly addressed those areas of the USA where theocrats were in charge. We cannot stand by and allow the David Bradley’s to spread their disinformation.
The proper response is “I’ll offer $2000 for anyone who can find the word ‘moron’ in the name ‘David Bradley.'”

Yup, Charles, it’s there and as clear as the separation of church and state. However, nowhere is there the word intelligent or educated or even open minded in ANY of their names.
The wicked witch of Delaware has told us that evolution is only a myth. Others have pointed to the word “Theory,” not knowing what the scientific definition of “Theory” means.
We MUST get rid of them one way or the other, or as Angle said, “We’re going to have to resort to our second amendment remedy.” Why isn’t she in prison? For that matter, why aren’t the three worst war criminals behind bars? I refer to Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld. This country is NOT the country into which I was born.

I too have been feeling the same as you: feeling like a foreigner in my own country. I hardly recognize this place anymore. Just wait til November! It’s going to get a whole lot MORE unrecognizable then when the Reps get in and again BIG TIME in 2012.
As for your reference to Sharron Angle’s comment about people exercising their second amendment rights, I was pretty shocked by that too. (In fact, to be honest, I’m surprised there hasn’t been a presidential assassination yet. YET!) The reason she hasn’t been arrested is that she and all her adoring worshippers will tell you that she has the right of speech. Also because she’s so popular. (She is now running virtually neck and neck with Reid whereas just months ago nobody thought her poll numbers could ever get that close to him). Had she not been so popular, her candidacy might have died with that one statement. One statement has sunk the campaigns of many candidates (eg: George Allen and his “macaca” comment*). However, it seems that as long as you’re a Republican or Tea Partier, the more outrageous your comments, the more the public loves you.
* I still don’t know what a “macaca” is. Some kind of monkey? Oh wait, that’s a macaque. Silly me.
Most strict Constitutionalists rely on the Federalist Papers and other documents from the founding fathers to gain insight and clarity as to the intent of the brief words written in the Constitution. As such they should also be familiar with Jefferson’s response to the Danbury letter…
