A fiscally conservative leader might be expected to at least stop promoting a policy that’s been such an expensive failure. But apparently not Rick Perry. He has repeatedly chosen to follow the will of the right-wing base of the Republican Party, especially as the party continued to shift further [to the right]. It doesn’t matter that a majority of parents want more than abstinence taught in our schools, and it doesn’t matter what our kids really need to be healthy and responsible. What matters to Rick Perry is winning Republican primaries, and to him that means following his base rather than trying to lead it.
