Texas Freedom Network President Kathy Miller, on state Sen. Dan Patrick’s tenure as chair of the Texas Senate Committee on Education.

Cutting people off, not allowing them to complete their three minutes of testimony, asserting that they hadn’t read the legislation and weren’t prepared to testify appropriately does discourage opposition, whether Senator Patrick means it to or not. It kind of undermines the whole idea of a participatory government process.

There are no laws to protect individuals such as myself. It should not matter that as diverse as I am—being gay, disabled, Latino and a veteran—I am a person of this great state.
