Our friends at Right Wing Watch have noted a lot of crazy coming out of Texas recently. Here are a few choice examples:
On Wednesday Right Wing Watch posted video of self-styled “historian” David Barton pretending to know something about science. The head of Texas-based WallBuilders actually reveals that his knowledge of science is about as pitiful as his limited grasp of historical facts:
“Global warming occurs,” Barton stated, but “we haven’t had it in sixteen years. But anthropogenic? That hasn’t been proved at all, not by a long shot. Anthropogenic means man-caused global warming. I mean, we’ve got cycles, you bet. That’s why we have averages. That’s why in Texas we go from summers of 70 degrees to summers of a 120 degrees. I mean, it’s averages.”
On Monday East Texas Congressman Louie “Terror Babies” Gohmert launched into an angry rant that essentially blames President Obama for the race-baiting we’ve seen from the president’s far-right critics:
“Of course we know that this president and this administration has done more to stir up racial tension and violence than any administration since, you know, the sixties. I thought that we were going to have… Read More
In this week’s episode of “The Louie ‘Terror Babies’ Gohmert Files,” the East Texas congressman expresses his rejection of both marriage equality and evolution.
As our friends at Right Wing Watch report, Gohmert — speaking on a right-wing program — went on a rambling diatribe about the Supreme Court’s ruling against the Defense of Marriage Act. At one point he explained that King Solomon would have remained “the wisest man in the history of mankind” if he had just stuck to one wife. And then he dragged evolution into the discussion:… Read More
We expected all kinds of crazy when East Texas Congressman Louie “Terror Babies” Gohmert joined David Barton and Rick Green on the latter duo’s WallBuilders Live radio program on Monday. And sure enough, that’s what we got.
The three agreed, for example, that the Southern Poverty Law Center — one of the nation’s leading civil rights organizations — has been “linked to domestic terrorism” (not true, unless by “linked” they mean in the fevered imaginations of right-wing fanatics). But, as our friends at Right Wing Watch report, the crazy really bubbled over when Gohmert started talking about sex education. Gohmert, who clearly doesn’t understand what sex education is, wondered why anyone needs to teach kids how to have sex since “mankind has existed for a pretty long time without anyone ever having to give a sex-ed lesson to anybody.” And then his paranoia gene kicked in, leading him to link the issue of sex education to life in the old Soviet Union:
Let the kids be innocent. Let them dream. Let them play. Let them enjoy their life. You don’t have to force this sexuality stuff into their life at… Read More
Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert apparently thinks the way to cut the federal deficit is by attacking the poorest and neediest Americans. And he’s willing to trot out the old tried-and-true smears that right-wingers have used for decades.
On Thursday, Gohmert offered his justification for cutting billions in assistance to low-income Americans who get support from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, commonly called “food stamps.” He told his colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives that his East Texas constituents tell him tales of food stamp recipients who purchase gourmet foods — like king crab legs — with their benefits. That angers his constituents, Gohmert says:
“Because he does pay income tax, he doesn’t get more back than he pays in, he is actually helping pay for king crab legs when he can’t pay for them for himself. We don’t want anyone to go hungry, and from the amount of obesity in this country by people who we’re told do not have enough to eat, it does seem like we could have a debate about this issue without allegations about wanting to slap down or starve children.”
We’re surprised he didn’t just brand all SNAP recipients as “welfare queens”… Read More
East Texas Congressman Louie “Terror Babies” Gohmert doesn’t like President Obama’s pledge to scale back the U.S. nuclear arsenal (along with the the arsenals of other nuclear powers).
Is now really the time to reduce America’s nuclear strength, when we can’t even secure our borders? http://fxn.ws/145pFHz
What is he suggesting? That we nuke anyone who makes it over the border fence?… Read More
