Louie 'Terror Babies' Gohmert Compares Gay Rights Supporters to Nazis

There he goes again. Congressman Louie “Terror Babies” Gohmert, an East Texas Republican, is once again demonstrating his contempt for people different from him.

Today on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, Gohmert assured listeners that he loves everybody before then suggesting that gay people are intolerant, are a danger to society, and are trying to demean traditional Christian values. (Golly. Such loving words, yes?) He explained his distress that anyone would call him a hater. (Shocking, we know.) And to top if off, this man who supposedly  loves everybody actually compared advocates of equality for LGBT people to Nazis. From Talking Points Memo:

So it is amazing that in the name of liberality, in the name of being tolerant, this fascist intolerance has arisen. People that stand up and say, you know, I agree with the majority of Americans, I agree with Moses and Jesus that marriage was a man and a woman, now all of a sudden, people like me are considered haters, hate mongers, evil, which really is exactly what we’ve seen throughout our history as going back to the days of the Nazi takeover in Europe. What did they do? First, they would call people “haters” and “evil” and build up disdain for those people who held those opinions or religious views or religious heritage. And then the next came, well, those people are so evil and hateful, let’s bring every book that they’ve written or has to do with them and let’s start burning the books, because we can’t tolerate their intolerance.

Talking Points Memo has a clip of Gohmert’s fuller comments here:

  1. Uh, Louie, pal…check the recent polls. The majority of Americans support same-sex marriage (probably because the majority of Americans aren’t threatened by two adults who happen to be of the same sex marrying each other and living happily ever after).

    1. Well, of course all these polls are either totally fabricated or the pollsters threatened the victims of their questions with gratuitous violence should they not answer gay-friendly. At least that is the argument from many of the gay = Nazi crowd. It’s the same people that claim that all the elections won by Dems are the result of voter intimidation and fraud.
      😉

  2. Yes, the ones who recognize that every citizen has the same inherent right to enjoy all civil rights, not just the ones the majority deigns to permit, are exactly like fascists — except in every possible way.

  3. I’m still waiting for somebody… anybody… to name just one “Judeo-Christian value” upon which our nation was founded. There’s not a single word in the Old or New Testament about freedom, equality, the pursuit of happiness, democracy, or a republic form of government. the closest they have is “the general welfare,” which is a humanist and not uniquely Christian or Jewish value. It’s a lie that liars like Gohmert keep repeating, in Joseph Goebbels fashion, as if repeating a lie often enough will make it the truth.
