Dallas Pastor Expands on His Claim about President Obama ‘Paving the Way for the Antichrist’

Robert Jeffress, pastor First Baptist Church in Dallas, made news recently with excerpts from his upcoming book in which he suggests that President Obama’s “policies are paving the way for the Antichrist.”

Here’s what Jeffress says about the president in his new book, Perfect Ending, which discusses biblical prophecies about the end times:

“For the first time in history a president of our country has openly proposed altering one of society’s (not to mention God’s) most fundamental laws: that marriage should be between a man and a woman. While I am not suggesting that President Obama is the Antichrist, the fact that he was able to propose such a sweeping change in God’s law and still win reelection by a comfortable margin illustrates how a future world leader will be able to oppose God’s laws without any repercussions.”

Today One News Now, the propaganda website for the far-right group American Family Association, posted an article in which Jeffress further explains his reasoning:

“I want to be clear: I’m not at all saying Barack Obama is the Antichrist. In fact, I’m sure he’s not – and one reason I know that is the Bible teaches the Antichrist will have higher poll numbers than Barack Obama.”

Jeffress adds that the Bible teaches that this world dictator will usurp people’s basic rights like the freedom of speech, worship, and in commerce. “Not only that, he will launch an unprecedented attack against God’s people,” the pastor continues. “And according to Daniel 7:25, he will seek to change God’s most basic moral laws – and he will do all of this without any opposition, at least at the beginning.”

In recent years Jeffress has built a reputation for making incendiary and offensive statements. Last summer, for example, he compared the United States to Nazi Germany. He has also insisted that Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, isn’t a Christian because he belongs to the Mormon Church (which Jeffress has called a “cult”). And he has claimed that Islam “promotes pedophilia” and suggested that people have good reason to believe that President Obama is a Muslim. President Obama is, of course, a Christian.

  1. Been a long 30 yrs…….. (she says, while realizing that her taxes reflect what was done 30 yrs ago while these people were being a really, really, REALLY annoying Red Herring.

  2. These End Timers are anything if not entertaining. 😉 They’ve been claimimg the end if days for 2000 years and counting… And using the most obscure biblical references as their “evidence”.

I feel sorry for them. They get so wrapped up in useless dogma that they cannot face their own hypocrisy nor really focus their Christian efforts on real charitable priorities.

  3. Obama didn’t “openly propose” gay marriage — he got dragged to it kicking and screaming because activism and the forward-looking action of a handful of states turned the tide on public opinion.

Yeah, he lost me in the first (quoted) sentence.

  4. So doesn’t this make Solomon a bit dodgy as one of God’s favourites? I mean, 700 wives sort of exceeds the “one man, one woman” directive.

That plus the fact that “traditional” marriage was invented by 11th-century French Catholic bishops as a means of consolidating the Church’s control of the aristocracy.

  5. President Lincoln proposed altering what the Southern Baptists of his time called one of society’s and God’s most fundamental laws: He proposed abolishing slavery.

  6. I would suggest to everyone who might be about to send a comment regarding this item not do so. Why waste time commenting on the thoughts of someone who is as ignorant as a rock?

  7. I have news for Pastor Jeffress. These are not the end times. The Anti-Christ will be a card carrying member of conservative Christianity, and the people they will be persecuting will be the numerous real Christians who have enough common sense to recognize that modern day Christian fundamentalism and conservative evangelicalism (for the most part) are at odds with the things Jesus taught. In other words, Pastor Jeffress and the people who think like him are the unwitting vanguard of the Anti-Christ at work in the world today.

  8. We should be so thankful for the guidance of this very learned man who doles out advice about identifying and providing solutions for dangers which lie ahead for us. please show your gratitude for his being able to interpret coded Revelations for us, which should never have been written, should never been included in the anthology called the bible, and took a long time to be cannonized. It has served no useful purpose only to cause confusion and unwinnable arguments which only the Professional reigionist can unravel for us, they say. It’s John on drugs…who cares. Antichrist=load of crap.
