Richard Dawkins, in a discussion of Gov. Rick Perry’s recent anti-science statements while on the presidential campaign trail.

In any other party and in any other country, an individual may occasionally rise to the top in spite of being an uneducated ignoramus. In today’s Republican Party ‘in spite of’ is not the phrase we need. Ignorance and lack of education are positive qualifications, bordering on obligatory.

Educator Craig Studer, on what Texas students have to look forward to under controversial social studies standards adopted by the State Board of Education in 2010.

History in Texas classrooms will be decidedly different from when we were students. I never learned “both the positive and negative impacts of … country and western music” in my high school history class. Where would you rate Estée Lauder in terms of historical importance to our country? If you think she is one of the 68 most important historical figures, you agree with the board. Yes, the board included her in the state curriculum, but not George Washington.

  1. Right on Brother Huntsman! Of course he’ll never get the vote of extreme right wing nutjob religious crowd because he’s not “one of them.” It’s the battle between the Mormons and the Morons.

  2. Please, Texans, keep Rick Perry in your state and spare the nation the embarrassment and damage you have had to suffer through these ten long years.

  3. Ed,… no that’s ok, we don’t mind. You guys can have him Meanwhile we’ll secede. Viva Zapata!

  4. I think it’s just a matter of time before there’s a Broadway themed drag revue called the “Mermans.”

  5. Richard Dawkins, said “In any other party and in any other country, an individual may occasionally rise to the top in spite of being an uneducated ignoramus. 7. 1. She’s going to run.
    2. She’s going to endorse Perry.
    3. She’s committing to 5 years in a Buddhist convent.

    Eh, probably #2.

  8. There’s a piece on the Politco called “Is Rick Perry really dumb?” Some other republican is quoted who said “He’s like Bush only without brains.” Yes and yes.

What I really want to know is whether Perry uses that spray-on hair that Ronco, which was a division of Popeil, the company that made the most excellent Popeil’s pocket fisherman, and also had a smash hit best seller with Mr. Microphone, which had that really cool commercial with two guys cruising around in a convertible and one of them took Mr. Microphone and shouted at a young lady “hey good looking we’ll be back to pick you up later!” but they didn’t show the girl reacting, no doubt she flipped him the bird or some such……where was I?……….oh yeah I can’t help but think Perry bought a lifetime supply of spray-on hair from Ronco back in the ’70s. It went for $7.99 a can if memory serves, and was always buy one get one free, Perry probably bought 8,000 cases, 24 cans per case.
