The Week in Quotes (Aug. 14 – 20)

Here are some of the week’s most notable quotes culled from news reports from across Texas, and beyond.

Gov. Rick Perry, erroneously telling a young boy in New Hampshire that Texas public schools teach creationism alongside evolution.

I hear your mom was asking about evolution and, you know, it’s a theory that’s out there. It’s got some gaps in it, but in Texas we teach both creationism and evolution in our public schools. Because I figure you’re smart enough to figure out which one is right.

  1. A little off subject, but not much because we are talking about nuts that either have power or want it. I have been following the rebel advance in Libya. Earlier today, the rebels overran the largest military base that protects Tripoli, after a brief firefight wherein they ran the Gaddafi troops away. They apparently captured enormous quantities of armaments and are distributing them to their fellow rebels. Here is the bread and butter quote from some of the rank and file rebels:

The rebels were chanting: “We are coming for you, frizz-head.”

That should be a chilling message to all nuts out there, including fundamentalist Christian religious nuts, who are either in power or want power. American Revolutions do happen. French Revolutions do happen. German revolutions do happen. Just because you want to get into office and impose your religious beliefs on everyone, never doubt that there would be millions upon millions of ordinary people willing to risk their lives to dump your sorry butt in the gutter. Watch Libya closely and consider the lesson.
