Amendment Is a Mean-spirited Distraction from the Real Issues Working Families Really Care About

President Kathy Miller of the Texas Freedom Network released the following statement following today’s Senate passage of H.J.R. 6, which would amendment the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage in Texas. Same-sex marriage is already illegal in Texas.

“Wasting time debating this unnecessary and divisive bill has been a distraction from the issues working Texas families really care about. It will do nothing to fund our schools, provide health care to kids or protect abused and neglected children. But lawmakers have put those crises on a backburner so they could give organized religious extremists another tool to raise money and increase their political clout.”
