SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Texas Rising Action alum Ric Galvan won the San Antonio City Council District 6 runoff election Saturday, marking a significant victory for youth-led organizing and community-focused leadership in San Antonio. Galvan, who began his journey with Texas Rising Action as a high school senior, will now represent District 6 on the San Antonio City Council.
Galvan’s campaign centered on his deep roots in District 6, where he was born and raised, and his commitment to addressing the needs of working families. His victory was supported by endorsements from major local unions, including city workers, transit workers, and teachers.
Texas Rising Action Director Ofelia Alonso (she/her/ella) issued the following statement:
“Ric Galvan’s win for San Antonio City Council is a proud moment for all of us who have watched him grow through every stage of Texas Rising. From joining the program as a high school senior to becoming a powerful young leader under 30, Ric has never wavered in his commitment to building a just and equitable Texas. The runoff election comes after a highly competitive general election that was decided by just a few dozen votes, highlighting the importance of every vote in local elections. Galvan’s victory demonstrates the growing influence of young voters and organizers in San Antonio politics.
As a city council member, Galvan has pledged to focus on environmental protection, strengthening public schools, and promoting comprehensive public safety approaches that serve all residents of District 6.
