Ted Cruz’s Dad Attacks the Faith of Catholic and Jewish Democrats

Religious-righters spend a lot of time these days screaming “persecution!” when they’re not allowed to use religion to discriminate against people they don’t like. So it’s more than just a bit hypocritical when they question the religious faith of people who don’t share their political views. That’s what Rafael Cruz, father of Ted Cruz, the U.S. senator from Texas and a Republican presidential candidate, did this past weekend.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Palm Beach County Tea Party in Florida, Rafael Cruz argued that Catholic and Jewish Democrats put their political beliefs ahead of their religious beliefs.

“Unfortunately, in the northeast, the Jews are Democrats first and Jews second. This is what has happened to a great many in the Catholic church. They are Democrats first and Catholics second.

There are people voting Democrat because, ‘My grandfather or my father voted Democrat.’ Let me tell you something. The Democratic party today is not the Democratic party of John Kennedy. John Kennedy would be a Republican today.”

Cruz went on to suggest that religious leaders who don’t lead their congregations to take the right political positions are like religious leaders who failed to oppose the Nazis and stop the Holocaust.

  1. Please! Who cares what Rafael Cruz thinks or says about anything? Remember Billy Bob Carter? Same thing.

    1. Billy Carter was just an annoying brother. He had no role in the Carter campaign or the Carter administration.
Rafael Cruz is a recognized campaign surrogate for Ted Cruz, and there is no real difference in the ideas they espouse.
So the comparison is not a valid one.

      1. Do you think Cruz approves those messages, or stands ready to throw Pa under the bus if he becomes a problem?

  2. Well, he is correct in many cases. Besides Christian who talk about their faith are called racists, bigots, homophobes and many other unflattering things. Their businesses get sued and the Sisters of the Poor have had to battle it out over their Pro Life stnace. So lets not get to touchy.

Besides, as Doc Bill says, Who cares what he says?

    1. The only Christians who are called racists, bigots, and homophobs are the ones who use their Christianity to further the racist, bigot, homophobic agenda. Those who live their faith with love and tolerance are not.

As for Papa Cruz, please, please, for all of us, keep spewing your hate and dividing the electorate.

    2. Sorry, Amazed, but your persecution complex has made you delusional. There are 300,000 Christian churches in the USA and only 400 Whole Foods. Seventy percent of the nation is Christian and over 80% of government. Who’s persecuting Christians? Hindus? As for the Sisters of the Poor, they’re the one filing the lawsuit. They’re EXEMPT from the AHA mandates. All they have to do is sign a waiver. Poor Sisters of the Poor! Somebody needs to call a whammmmmmmbulance.

But, I digress. Amazed, please regale us with an instance where R. Cruz is correct. Thank you.

      1. Haven’t listened to his comments don’t care to listen but generally as far as I taught in a Catholic School for several years the joke was sin hard pray harder. Catholics are not Christians, they are Catholics. They believe a totally different gospel than the one Jesu and Paul espoused. And that Pope is so twisted he has to screw his collar on.

As to the Jews, at the trial of their savior Jesus Christ they said, “we have no God but Caesar” and also told Pilate ‘His blood be upon us and our children”. They broke the covenant with God. That is why they were scattered all over the face of the earth. And they committed national suicide when they wanted Barabbas released and Christ crucified. They have been paying for that one ever since up to the present day.

        1. That’s the most twisted pie of fiction nonsense I’ve ever read. Get professional help, Amazed. Seriously.

  3. So now Rafael Cruz, who is neither Jewish nor Catholic, is pronouncing on who is a good Jew and who is a good Catholic.

I’d like to start a rating service for electrical engineers. I have exactly the same qualifications as Cruz: I know very little about any of them and I don’t know much about electrical engineers, but I really love my own opinions.

  4. “Unfortunately, in Texas, the thumpers are idiots first and Christians second. This is what has happened to a great many in the strip mall churchs. They are idiots first and Christians second.

  5. Oh, I am so happy that a member of the TEAliban has determined that Jews are Democrats first and Jews second. Being a Jew, I am just like Bernie Sanders, I vote for whoever is going to contribute the most to those who need it the most and not for a party.
However, since the former Republican Party which is now the TEAliban and tries to do the most for the ultra wealthy and is attempting to destroy what is left of the middle class.
Bush destroyed the SURPLUS when he was governor of Texas and put us into a deficit condition.
When he took over the White House, he did the same thing to the country and pissed away the SURPLUS that Bill Clinton left us.
The TEAliban French kiss the 1/2 of 1% by giving them more and more and more of what they don’t need.
I had wanted to live to be over 100, now I know I will not make it because I can no longer afford my prescriptions and without them I will die.
The game is so rigged that Medicare can’t negotiate for better prices but there is NOTHING preventing Big Pharma from raising prices without any justification.
One drug that I need used to cost me $8.00 copay. Now? It has gone up to $75.00. There are no agencies that will help me afford the price of the drugs I need because I “make too much money.” TOO MUCH MONEY? They go by my gross income which is less than $1,700 a month. Those idiots feel that people who are on Social Security don’t pay mortgages, rent, food, clothing (I’ve not bought anything new in over half a decade) etc. Half of my income is to pay my share of the mortgage. By the time I get through paying my normal bills I have less than $100 in the bank and somehow I’m supposed to come up with money for my prescriptions.
So I’m going to be dead in about a year or so. Try living with no high blood medication, no pain relief, and no ability to exercise because spinal osteoarthritis is eating the cartilage in my back and neck.
Suicide is out of the question, I wish it weren’t.
BTW, I tried a small amount of marijuana. POW! My chronic intractable pain went bye-bye. But thanks to this backward TEAliban state, nobody can get it legally. But at close to $300 an ounce…aww, nuts.
