Talking Points

From today’s TFN News Clips:

“So you go ahead and you continue to do your little protest thing, and that’s great. I love it. But just know — the hammer is coming. We’ve been compiling information on you, your cute little organization, and all the other cute little people that are with you. And when the hammer comes, it’s going to be hammering hard and all through the night.”

— FOX News host Glenn Beck, in a stunning (but revealing) response to an offer by Sojourners’ Jim Wallis to sit down and discuss the Gospel and social justice, the latter of which Beck had earlier linked to Nazis and Marxists.

  1. For someone who doesn’t seem to like anything affiliated with communism/socialism, Beck goes crazy with the hammer imagery. And alludes to tactics used by the likes of the Stasi or McCarthy.

    Pot meet kettle.

  2. There is a long tradition in CrackerLand to take notes of socialistic, liberal, red and/or black activities. This happened in WW1 and afterwards in the Palmer raids against rising Red activities which included sabotage, assasination, bombing, and the like.

In between WW 1 and WW2 there were local volunteer groups that kept detailed records of the comings, goings, and doings of Leftish groups including some of the unions. The records and some of the people were integrated into theFBI on the eve of WW2 which facilitated the round up of Fascists and Nazis (including the Deutsch Amerika Bund).

The Japanese in Hawaii were kept under tight surveillance looking for Communists and Socialists who might cause problems for the Pinapple Gentry. Theywere called the Pineapple Police. The alliance between Hitler and Stalin brought both groups under watch.

In the Fifties these volunteer groups continued to keep records and from time to time would announce that they had documentary proof that Eisenhower was a Commie Agent, or such like that. McCarthy fed off these groups.

The Sixties shut down most of these but since the US Embassy was taken by Iran, it became popular to be an American again instead of the flag burning of teh Sixties.

  3. Ummm.. Isn’t it usually facsists and commies that compile information on others, Mr. Beck? I guess Mr. Beck just outer himself.

  4. If Glenn Beck wants to be hammering hard all through the night, that’s very nice for him, as long as all concerned are consenting adults.

However, he really doesn’t need to tell us about it.

  5. “There’s often some kind of S/M sexual undertone to Beck’s rants.” HA HA HA HA HA!

    If I had a hammer
    I’d hammer in the morning
    I’d hammer in the evening
    All over this land.
    I’d hammer out Danger
    I’d hammer out Warning,
I’d hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters
    All over this land.

    If I had a bell
I’d ring it in the morning
I’d ring it in the evening
    All over this land
    I’d ring out Danger
    I’d ring out a Warning
I’d ring out love between my brothers and my sisters
    All over this land

    If I had a song
I’d sing it in the morning
I’d sing it in the evening
    All over this land
    I’d sing out Danger
    I’d sing out a Warning
I’d sing out love between my brothers and my sisters
    All over this land

    Well I’ve got a hammer
    And I’ve got a bell
And I’ve got a song to sing
    All over this land
    It’s the hammer of Justice
    It’s the bell of Freedom
It’s the song about love between my brothers and my sisters
    All over this land

(With respectful love and thanksgiving to Lee Hays, Pete Seeger, and Peter Paul & Mary

  6. It’s difficult to understand.
Beck is deluded and I suppose most of his audience is as well — teetering on the edge of hysteria and madness.
Or is Beck’s very public descent into madness a burden he bears on behalf of us all so that we can retain our sanity? If this is the case, Beck and Fox should be applauded.

  7. Beck is inciting violence – as he and his sidekick Bill O’Reilly have always done. Bill O’Reilly advocated for (and got) the assassination of Dr. Tiller. Lou Dobbs called for the assassination of Howard Dean….Spitting on Democrats, shouting racist and homophobic epithets, harassing poor old handicapped people, lobbing bricks through the windows of offices….. and they call the LEFT the dangerous people.

I’m thinking this violence could (and probably will) escalate.

  8. I don’t think Beck doesn’t believe the crap he spews. He’s just fascinated with the effect his speech has on the dog-whistle crowd.
When someone else pulls the trigger, he’ll get the satisfaction.
He’s very lucky to have Rupert Murdoch as a patron for his “performance art”.

  9. Whatever Beck himself believes is almost beside the point. The nutcakes out there take him seriously; people are getting their offices and homes vandalized and receiving death threats. If somebody actually gets hurt (which I expect will happen), Glenn Beck and his Republican friends should be held accountable for their encouragement. Which of course, they will never admit. They’ll blame Democrats for having brought it on themselves.

  10. Exactly. This, Hannity’s, Palin’s, and O’Reilly’s incitement to murder should be laid at the door of Newscorp and Murdoch.
Boehner and the others of his ilk should be likewise targeted.
    By lawyers.

  11. John McCain was ranting and raving about the health care “reform.” Uh, John, don’t you have a preexisting condition? And aren’t you the beneficiary of a “government-run” health insurance?

Oh, I see. As long as YOU benefit, then “government-run” health insurance that doesn’t discriminate for preexisting conditions is OK. But nobody else deserves it. Just you.

    And John Boehner.

  12. You mean John “the fundamentals of the economy are sound” McCain?
He’s got a lot of credibility.
They’re all in. It’s a clear choice in the fall. Either they win with their (multileveled) “hysteria” strategy, or the Progressives and the responsible adults win.
Glenn Beck seems to be getting a lot of attention, but he doesn’t seem to be having much affect.

According to a new Bloomberg poll, 90% of the Teabaggers think that the government is trending toward socialism, but 70% think the federal government should be fostering job creation.

    Hmmm….
