Five of the Texas State Board of Education‘s far-right bloc have endorsed Marty Rowley of Amarillo in the Republican primary for the District 15 state board seat. Rowley’s campaign blog says board Chair Barbara Cargill, R-The Woodlands; former chair Gail Lowe, R-Lampasas; Charlie Garza, R-El Paso; Terri Leo, R-Spring; and Ken Mercer, R-San Antonio have “unanimously” endorsed him. We don’t know what he means by “unanimous”: a sixth member of the board’s far-right bloc, David Bradley, R-Beaumont Buna, is not on the list of endorsers. (All of the board’s far-right members except Leo are seeking re-election this year.)
Rowley is seeking the board seat currently held by Bob Craig, R-Lubbock, who is not seeking re-election. Anette Carlisle, president of the Amarillo Independent School District’s Board of Trustees, is also running for the Republican nomination for that seat. Steven Schafersman of Midland is the lone Democrat running for the seat.
The Texas Freedom Network’s SBOE Election Watch page includes more information about the board elections and candidates.

The denialism going on over at Marty’s blog is painful to read.
The main “denialism” piece at the blog would be here. I haven’t had time to dissect the folly among the comments, but the main piece shows Marty Rowley is clearly in the “just a theory” and “teach the controversy” camps.
Incidentally, this entry probably also ought to be filed in the “Marty Rowley” category also, as well as linked to it.
Couple of people from here are refuting the nonsense over there. Good work.
Creationism is based on a literal interpretation of Genesis and a rejection of the scientific method in favor
of supernaturalistic explanations for the natural
world around us. I really think Mercer, Garza, Cargoll, Bahorich and Rowley need to go all the way if they want be true creationists. The Bible, reflecting its Babylonian era view of the natural world repeatedly says the earth is flat, a view held by the church for many centuries. It also says that pi is equal to 3. Mr Bradley, if you are a true creationist you will come out in support of the flat earth theory. That position would be consistent with your other
creationism, anti science perspectives.
We’re already aware of your Biblical ” stone the gays” viewpoint. I’m sure the 7% of humanity who were born
gay are happy to hear you and Ahmindinejad have the same perspective on those people. You see according to Ahmindinejad, they don’t have gays in Iran.
You guys even look a little similar. Sir you don’t speak for me as a Christian, or for most Christian denominations. I’m pretty sure Jesus would not have hated gays the way you obviously do. Of course your perspective is in line with your scientific skills. That is to say, it’s quite uh Babylonian.
