We just sent out the following press release:
PETITION CALLS ON GOV. PERRY TO ADD SEX EDUCATION TO CALL FOR SPECIAL SESSION
Comprehensive Sex Ed Offers Best Approach for Reducing Abortions in Texas
More than 5,000 Texans have added their names to a petition calling on Gov. Rick Perry to add passing effective sex education policies to the call for the current special session of the Legislature.
Representatives of the Texas Freedom Network are delivering the petition and names of 5,502 supporters to Gov. Perry today, said Dan Quinn, TFN’s communications director.
“If Gov. Perry really wants to reduce the number of abortions in Texas, the best way to do that is to ensure that young people get medically accurate information about birth control as well as abstinence in their high school sex education classes,” Quinn said. “In a state with one of the highest teen birth rates in the nation, replacing failed abstinence-only policies with more effective sex education makes a lot more sense than pushing divisive abortion legislation just to boost the careers of cynical politicians.”
The teen birth rate in Texas ranks fifth-highest in the nation. The state ranks first in the rate of repeat births to teens. Legislators have filed at least five bills in the special session that would improve sex education policies in Texas.
Reports in 2009 and 2011 from the Texas Freedom Network Education Fund found that the vast majority of the state’s public schools teach abstinence-only or nothing about sex education. But a February 2013 statewide poll found that 84 percent of registered voters in Texas support teaching about birth control, including condoms, along with abstinence in high school sex education classes.
The petition is available at www.tfn.org/takeaction.
AMEN
Is it just me? I strongly suspect that Gov. Perry is not the least bit interested in reducing the number of teen & repeat teen pregnancies, and no matter what we say, never will be.
They are only interested in making the lives of women and families more difficult. Period.
What? Sex education and empower women?
How can you control women if you empower them? You can’t! It’s all about control. And money. There has to be a money trail in there somewhere.
Lest there be any doubt of the shenanigans and thought process of the TEA-Republicans. Pennsylvania Republicans have decided against expanding Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, arguing that covering more low-income residents would cost the state too much money. But last week, Gov. Tom Corbett (R) went a step further, telling a local news station that poor residents who are already enrolled in the program, including pregnant women and breast cancer patients, are receiving too much free care and should pay into the system. TEA-Republicans show on a daily basis and hourly just how out-of-touch they are. The RNC’s re-branding has taken a hit from TEA-Republican-Evangelical-Libertarian activist at the local and state level. Immigration reform and women’s reproductive rights are top of the list. TEA-Republican repeated attacking the PPACA Health Care Act with almost 40 repeals by the House shows what their true acts are. It is unconscionable how against the middle class they are. This is what TEA-Republicans are working for.( http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/08/gop-wall-street-bill_n_3542999.html ) The next elections will make or break our nation if you stay at home and do nothing. With Rick Parry, Sarah Palin and Liz Cheney positioning for a run for higher office, one can see the TEA-Republicans are pulling out all the stops to get back in control. There must be a concerted effort by women, blacks, Hispanics/Latinos and others of color to remove these misplaced misfits from office. The 2014 Mid-term is a-coming! As is 2016, and 2018! @Doc Bill: Well said. You and I are dangerous people. You’ve just tapped into their real agenda.
I’d just like to retiterate what Rudy Gon Zales just said. We people what’s out here on the right jist don’t not understand you lefties.
Take this healthcare thing. Hits really simple so even you leftie morons should be able to understand it. Take this zample here. You got a 25 week premature boy baby in the obstetric ICU at your local hospital and a holdin’ on by a thread to life. Trubble izz. His parents and the kid ain’t got no health insurance. Should that baby be in the ICU gettin’ saved by my tax dollars? Why hell no!!! Doin’ sumpin’ like that violates a key conservative principal: “The only damned people that get health care should be the ones what can pay fer her all outa their own pockets. Their ain’t no right to health. Their ain’t no right to life without dollars. Hits all about money, whose got it, who ain’t, and what you can buy with it. Ain’t you people never seen a totals sheet with the bottom line, red ink, and black ink. Let me tell ya son. Thats what hits all about in this here world—and attun airs the right waya thinkin’.
So I say this, pull that preemie baby out of the incubator, ask him how much money he’s got in his diaper. If he ain’t got none, rip out that ventilator line. He’s then got a personal responsibility (one of our other principals) to find some money or die—and if he ain’t got none—he best be a dyin. Now, attun air is right thinkin’.
I hope ya’ll will excuse me now ’cause I gotta go over to a prolife meetin’ tonight, and then I gotta git over to First Baptist Church to worship Jesus cause hits Wednesday night.
I jist don’t understand you lefties?
Trouble is. Rudy Gonzales and I have a really hard time understanding how the Tea Party principles fit in with faith in Jesus.
Thanks, Charles, for settin’ us all straight. Y’all’s the best entertainment in town!
