David Barton: 'Hate Is a Virtue'

It appears that David Barton is continuing his trek through the gutters of hate into 2013. On his New Year’s Day radio program, the Texas right-winger compared liberals to Nazis and preached that “intolerance” and “hatred” of both are good things. From our friends at Right Wing Watch:

“So we’ve got to get to the point where tolerance is seen as a sin because we’re tolerating a lot stuff that destroys our families, that destroys our own character and we can’t tolerate that stuff.  We have to get back to the point where hate is a virtue, at least certain kinds of hate.  The fear of the Lord is to hate evil and we need to have a hatred of things and get off this fence of having no passion about anything.  You know, ‘I tolerate anything, I’m not going to have a passion good or bad, I’m not going to hate anything’ … We just can’t do that and we’ve got to get back to that same type of intolerance, that we’re going to be intolerant of liberalism.”

Right Wing Watch has more from Barton’s contemptible rant here.

  1. David Barton…because reading one book over and over and over is so much easier than studying all that hard stuff in school.
David! You ! are the Rush Limbaugh of Texas !!!
Like him, you’ve made a business out of being a provocateur and a misinformer.
And, like Rush, who flunked out of Missouri State his freshamn year for crying out loud,
your lack of study of the Founders reveals your lack of an education asnd an inability to use your mind in a logical manner. But, you already know that.:) All you have is dogma. And I agree with you, there is a lot of hate involved.

  2. Well, you have to remember that “Davy boy” had a pretty bad year. This was the year his conservative Christian followers got the goods on him and lashed out at his poor historical scholarship—many have said his lying about American history—but who knows exactly which is right? I guess if Godless liberals hate you, Godly conservatives hate you, and Godly liberals hate you, one would not be surprised to see him hating them back. But we have a traditional song about that down Nashville way. Listen for the Ernest Tubb parts:

  3. Ironically, ‘hatred is a virtue’ and similar ‘proud to be intolerant’ slogans feature prominently in speeches of the original nazis even before they came to power. It was at the core of Hitler’s last election campaign (that eerily looked American btw).

  4. And lying must be a virtue as well, at least in the demented mind of David Barton. When a history scholar named Glenn Sunshine at a Christian university, Central Connecticut State, writes that Barton’s The Jefferson Lies is “intellectually dishonest” and the publisher pulls the book due to a wealth of disinformation….that is virtue? If he considers that virtue….well hell he sprung from a perverted cult called the Assemblies of God, so it’s not surprising I suppose.
