Conference Committee Rejects Witch Hunts in Child Protective Services Bill

Senator Says S.B. 6 Excludes House-Passed Ban on Gay Foster Parents

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

President Kathy Miller of the Texas Freedom Network issued the following statement regarding today’s House-Senate conference committee report on Senate Bill 6. The Child Protective Services reform bill will now go to the House and Senate without a ban on gay, lesbian and bisexual foster parents, said Sen. Jane Nelson, R-Lewisville. Nelson was the bill’s Senate author. The ban was originally included in a House amendment offered by Rep. Robert Talton, R-Pasadena, in April.

“Fair-minded Texans will be pleased to see that this committee stood up for all foster children and the wonderful families that provide them safe, happy homes. Child placement experts should determine the best homes for foster children, not politicians who are more interested in ideological witch hunts than helping these kids.”
