Celebrate the First Amendment

Our friends at the San Antonio Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State are extending an open an invitation to their “First Amendment Day Celebration,” next Saturday, April 30.

“First Amendment Day Celebration!”
Celebrating the Constitution and the Bill of Rights
1 – 4 p.m., Saturday, April 30
Radius Center, 106 Auditorium Circle
www.radiuscenter.org
Admission is free and open to the public

Americans United believes the First Amendment represents the very cornerstone of our freedoms — freedoms that today are under attack from religious and political extremists. This celebration reclaims the spirit of individual liberty that is at the heart of what it mean to be an American.

This year’s celebration will focus on the freedom of religion, freedom of the press, and freedom of assembly provisions of the First Amendment. Future annual celebrations will highlight the other provisions of the Bill of Rights.

Confirmed speakers:

  • Reverend Barry W. Lynn, Executive Director of Americans United for Separation of Church & State.
  • Greg Harman, Editor of the San Antonio Current.
  • Cary Clack, Columnist, San Antonio Express-News
  • Jennifer Jacobs Henderson, PH.D., Associate Professor & Chair Dept. of Communication, Trinity University.

In addition, a panel of prominent, local religious leaders (to be announced) will discuss why it is important to support the religious freedom tenets set forth in the First Amendment.
The festivities will include live music, information booths from a broad spectrum of relevant non-profit organizations from San Antonio, and other activities. Food and drink will be available for purchase on the premises.

The first 300 attendees will receive a free copy of the Constitution of the United States.
Parking is free for the first 100 cars.
