AUSTIN, Texas — Governor Greg Abbott’s special legislative session has officially ended sine die. During the session, lawmakers considered legislation on redistricting, abortion access, restrictions targeting transgender Texans, and measures related to flood recovery.

Texas Freedom Network Executive Director Felicia Martin (she/her) issued the following response:

“Governor Abbott wasted this entire special session on cruelty and control. Texans needed flood relief, strong schools, and affordable healthcare. Instead, Abbott handed our state over to Trump’s agenda by attacking transgender Texans, criminalizing abortion, and manipulating voting maps to keep out-of-touch politicians in power. This session was never about solving problems; it was about silencing people. We saw this when the first bill to be voted out of both chambers was not flood relief but redrawn maps.

“Texans are stronger than Abbott’s political games. Across the state, communities are coming together to support each other, fight for fairness, and demand leaders who put Texans first. The Texas Freedom Network will continue to organize alongside Texans in every corner of this state to defend our rights and hold politicians accountable for their failures. Our communities deserve better than Trump-style politics. We deserve a government that works for us.”

In 2026, TFN and our youth organizing arm, Texas Rising Action, will endorse candidates committed to fair representation and mobilize voters to demand accountability at the ballot box.
