So this is what Texas Gov. Rick Perry had to say about gay people at an event Wednesday evening in San Francisco:
“Whether or not you feel compelled to follow a particular lifestyle or not, you have the ability to decide not to do that,” Perry said. “I may have the genetic coding that I’m inclined to be an alcoholic, but I have the desire not to do that, and I look at the homosexual issue the same way.”
The San Francisco Chronicle article notes that Perry’s comment “drew a murmur of disbelief” from the otherwise friendly crowd of supporters.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Perry has openly demonstrated his contempt for gay people:
- In 2005, at a ceremonial signing of a ban on same-sex marriage in Texas, Perry suggested that gay military veterans returning home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan should probably live somewhere other than the Lone Star State.
- In 2011 Perry criticized the Obama administration’s defense of the human rights of people who are imprisoned, brutalized and even murdered because they are gay, calling the administration’s policy “not in America’s interests” and “not worth a dime of taxpayers’ money.”
- Also in 2011 during his disastrous presidential campaign, Perry appeared in a television ad in which he criticized allowing gay people to serve openly in the military.
- In 2013 Perry compared opposing gay Boy Scouts to opposing slavery.
And those are just a few examples from Perry’s time as governor. How much lower will he go if he decides to run again for president in 2016?
I hope he does run for President so he can EPIC FAIL, which is exactly what he will do—and lose a fortune in the process.
Oh yes, please run Governor Oops, the world needs to see just how dim-witted you are, which makes one wonder about the people who elected you, several times.
Oh, please, Gov. Good Hair, run for President!
Jon Stewart needs material for his show and your entertainment value is just MmmmWAAAAAAHHH!
Hey, maybe Gov. could convince his pal and national “historian” David Barton to be his Veep. I’ll make the popcorn. Srsly.
Please don’t think that all Texans are as stupid as “The Gov” and that we all voted for him. The way the state is gerrymandered if you don’t vote Republican it doesn’t count. The county I live in is Democratic and we always get short changed with any funding from the Capitol.
If you want to go forward put it in D.
If you want to go backward put it in R.
