More Zombie Lies from David Barton

It’s bad enough that David Barton has promoted mythical quotations of the nation’s Founders and other famous Americans that continue to be recycled by far-right politicians and activists. Now we see that Barton, head of Texas-based WallBuilders and pal of folks like Glenn Beck and Newt Gingrich, is recycling right-wing myths that President Obama favors Islam over Christianity.

On Wednesday Barton posted a long essay calling Obama “America’s most Biblically hostile U.S. president.” The essay is essentially a long recitation of right-wing lies, distortions and myths that Barton claims demonstrate President Obama’s “hostility” toward “people of Biblical faith” and “Biblical values” and a “preferentialism for Islam.” You’ve no doubt seen many of these ridiculous claims repeated by right-wing commentators, on blogs and in spam email screeds over the past several years. So here’s just a sampling of the zombie lies Barton is promoting in his essay:

Barton says: “November 2011 – Unlike previous presidents, Obama studiously avoids any religious references in his Thanksgiving message.”

Barton is referring to the president’s Internet address about Thanksgiving. Considering that a public Internet didn’t exist until the 1990s, most previous presidents haven’t given such addresses. They have, however, issued proclamations — and so has President Obama. His Thanksgiving proclamation issued on November 16, 2011, explicitly mentions God and providence numerous times, including here:

“As we gather in our communities and in our homes, around the table or near the hearth, we give thanks to each other and to God for the many kindnesses and comforts that grace our lives.”

In addition, the president’s Internet address no less than four times notes the “blessings” for which Americans are grateful. One of the most common definitions of “blessing”: “a favor or gift bestowed by God, thereby bringing happiness.”

Barton also neglects to tell his readers that, as ABC News noted: “Three of the Republican presidential candidates – Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum – issued Thanksgiving statements that omitted any references to God. Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain and Rick Perry mentioned God in their statements.”

Barton says: “April 2009 – When speaking at Georgetown University, Obama orders that a monogram symbolizing Jesus’ name be covered when he is making his speech.”

A Georgetown University official at the time patiently explained to reporters what really happened:

“The White House wanted a simple backdrop of flags and pipe and drape for the speech, consistent with what they’ve done for other policy speeches…Frankly, the pipe and drape wasn’t high enough by itself to fully cover the IHS and cross above the GU seal and it seemed most respectful to have them covered so as not to be seen out of context.”

Barton says: “November 2011 – The Air Force Academy pays $80,000 to add a Stonehenge-like worship center for pagans, druids, witches and Wiccans.”

Air Force Academy officials were simply providing equal treatment to people who practice non-Christian religions. The Los Angeles Times talked to Chaplain Maj. Darren Duncan of the Academy:

“We’re here to accommodate all religions, period,” Duncan says. The building of the Cadet Chapel Falcon Circle on the hilltop, he says, is no different from the past conversion of chapel rooms into worship spaces that serve this year’s 11 Muslim, 16 Buddhist and 10 Hindu cadets. There are also 43 self-identified atheist cadets whose beliefs, or lack of them, Duncan says are also to be respected.

Barton says: “August 2010 – The Obama administration cuts funding for 176 abstinence education programs.”

Actually, federal funding continues for abstinence-only programs. But more to the point, why would refusing to spend tax dollars on a policy that doesn’t work somehow demonstrate “hostility toward Biblical values”?

Barton says: “September 2011 – The Pentagon directs that military chaplains may perform same-sex marriages at military facilities in violation of the federal Defense of Marriage Act.”

As reported by CNN, this is what the policy actually establishes:

“A military chaplain may participate in or officiate any private ceremony, whether on or off a military installation, provided that the ceremony is not prohibited by applicable state and local law,” a memo released Friday says. “Further a chaplain is not required to participate in or officiate a private ceremony if doing so would be in variance with the tenets of his or her religion.”

Barton says: “May 2009 – While Obama does not host any National Day of Prayer event at the White House, he does host White House Iftar dinners in honor of Ramadan.”

Barton is right that President Obama has hosted dinners celebrating the Muslim observance of Ramadan. What he neglects to say is that such events continue a tradition started by President George W. Bush, who held eight such dinners.

As previous presidents have done, President Obama has also commemorated the National Day of Prayer with proclamations and private prayer without official ceremonies. President George W. Bush did host such ceremonies, but there were only two other such events hosted by presidents previous to that administration: in 1989 and in 1982. In fact, the organizers of the National Day of Prayer themselves know this, as U.S. News and World Report noted back in 2009:

“National Day of Prayer Task Force Vice Chairman Brian Toon recently acknowledged that there weren’t regular White House events to mark the day until the Bush years, telling the Religion News Service: “There was no East Room event until George W.”

Today, however, the task force E-mailed me to say it had uncovered evidence for two White House events in pre-Bush administrations: a 1989 breakfast event in the State Dining Room hosted by George H. W. Bush and a 1982 Rose Garden event with Reagan. Not exactly evidence that annual National Day of Prayer events were a well-established tradition in the pre-Bush years, but the task force is clearly upset.”

President Obama continues to speak at the separate National Prayer Breakfast, however. From his remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast on Feb. 2 of this year:

“This is my third year coming to this prayer breakfast as President. As Jeff mentioned, before that, I came as senator…. But it’s always been an opportunity that I’ve cherished. And it’s a chance to step back for a moment, for us to come together as brothers and sisters and seek God’s face together. At a time when it’s easy to lose ourselves in the rush and clamor of our own lives, or get caught up in the noise and rancor that too often passes as politics today, these moments of prayer slow us down. They humble us. They remind us that no matter how much responsibility we have, how fancy our titles, how much power we think we hold, we are imperfect vessels. We can all benefit from turning to our Creator, listening to Him. Avoiding phony religiosity, listening to Him.”

Barton says: “August 2010 – Obama speaks with great praise of Islam and condescendingly of Christianity.”

Barton, who claims to be an expert “historian,” reveals a lot about himself with this claim. What does he list as his source? An essay by actor Chuck Norris on the right-wing website Townhall.com.

In repeating these zombie lies and distortions about President Obama, David Barton simply shows once again that he is a master propaganda artist — which is to say, he is an exceptionally experienced liar.

  1. David Barton is a master at argumentum ad baculum, fallacial arguments used to coerce others through verbal force and bullying in the style of The John Birch Society. Either Mr. Barton does not know or does not want people to know that Thomas Jefferson kept a copy of the Quran. Now housed in The Library of Congress, it was recently used for Keith Ellison, (D-MN) to swear his oath of office. Jefferson read the Quran to try to understand the political motivations of Muslim nations at the time, particularly North Africa.

Since Jefferson was a diest who studied theology and had ties to both The Anglican Communion and Unitarianism and kept a copy of the Quran in his library, Barton could argue that Jefferson was America’s first jihadist. Barton could also argue that Jefferson was a subversive since he cut and pasted scripture from the Bible, removing anything that had to do with the supernatural elements of Judeo-Christian beliefs and mysticism. We know it as the Jefferson Bible. Unlike Barton, Jefferson was committed to truth by exposing the tyranny and dangers of intolerance. Imagine if Obama voiced even less than one tenth of Jefferson’s diest and Unitarian religious philosophies how Barton would react.

Perhaps Barton and his appeal to force style of propaganda could indeed be better served with assistance from Chuck Norris. While Barton verbally abuses Obama with his insane arguments, Norris could be apply physical abuse to those who do not listen…. that is if Norris’ bad wig isn’t wound too tightly.

  2. Hm. Has anyone nailed down Barton’s connections to individuals previously associated with the John Birch Society, the Christian Front, or other earlier oddball movements?

  3. I’m thinking the Republican President, Abraham Lincoln should be credited with being the one most hostile to Christianity. Prior to his political success he had written a tract utterly demolishing that particular mythology. His colleagues convinced him to destroy it.

  4. Dan, you only refuted 7 out of 50 points by Barton. And 3 of your 7 points aren’t even done well…

Your point #4 — “Actually, federal funding continues for abstinence-only programs.”
Actually, Barton never said funding was stopped, he said it was cut, which it was.

Your point #5 — Your CNN quote verifies Barton’s claim… chaplains have NEW permission to perform gay marriage ceremonies ON A MILITARY BASE, which is in contravention to the Defense of Marriage Law.

Your point #7 — Not refuted at all. Instead, you attempt to smear Chuck Norris with a denigrating label. Very poor arguing, Dan.

    1. You’re welcome to your own interpretation, TalkBack. But really, just the first example is sufficient to show that Barton has problems telling the truth. Even if you were right that “3 of our 7 points aren’t done well” (of course, we disagree), his other four points would still be misleading. You would trust someone like that?

  5. Here’s another one >> The Air Force stops teaching the Just War theory to officers in California because the course is taught by chaplains and is based on a philosophy introduced by St. Augustine in the third century AD – a theory long taught by civilized nations across the world (except America).

This action was brought about by a complaint from the Military Religious Freedom Foundation group.

  6. Anyone who thinks David Barton isn’t a liar is not accepting reality. A simple Google search will reveal mountains of well-documented evidence that Barton lies on a regular basis. Start with Chris Rodda’s book, LIARS FOR JESUS.

  7. So, what Mr. Barton said About obsma’s
    Anti-Christian stance IS TRUE,
TFN, You’re the one playin word games.

  8. The notion that this administration is hostile to xianity is absurd except to those zealots who interpret a failure to promote their beliefs as a sign of hostility. Barton lies in 2 main ways: by apparently making up data and by failing to reveal evidence that does not support (or even refutes) his religious agenda.

  9. This is a classic ad hominem attack on the source of the news rather than than the news itself. As stated above, you refute 7 out of 50 – 3 of them poorly. In addition, the 7 you chose were minor – not the more important stated policy positions. Rather than deal with that, you attack David Barton as unreliable, which does nothing to refute the larger story here:

August 2011 – The Obama administration releases its new health care rules that override religious conscience protections for medical workers in the areas of abortion and contraception
April 2011 – For the first time in American history, Obama urges passage of a non-discrimination law that does not contain hiring protections for religious groups, forcing religious organizations to hire according to federal mandates without regard to the dictates of their own faith, thus eliminating conscience protection in hiring
January 2012 – The Obama administration argues that the First Amendment provides no protection for churches and synagogues in hiring their pastors and rabbis.
February 2012 – The Obama administration forgives student loans in exchange for public service, but announces it will no longer forgive student loans if the public service is related to religion.

    1. John,
It’s not an “ad hominem attack” to point out distortions of fact, which we did. David Barton is unreliable because he doesn’t tell the truth.

  10. TFN said “But really, just the first example is sufficient to show that Barton has problems telling the truth.”

Is this your standard of evidence TFN? Asserting that one out of 50 points is misleading demands the conclusion that all of Barton’s points are patently false?

Then by those same standards, my earlier assertion that 3 of your 7 points were inadequate, demands the conclusion that all of your points are invalid.

    Wow. That was easy.

    1. Actually, we showed that more than one of his claims were blatantly misleading. But after the first whopper, why should anyone trust the rest?

  11. TalkBack, David Barton has a long history of telling lies. There is credible and well documented evidence all over the Internet.

  12. Ok, how about these from Barton’s list:
“May 2009 – Obama declines to host services for the National Prayer Day (a day established by federal law) at the White House” History for National Day of Prayer: 1952 Truman establishes it, 1988 Reagan signs bill that designates it as 1st Thursday of May. 2009 Obama did not have official NDoP ceremony at the White House. Reagan and George H. Bush each only hosted the WH event once during their terms, Clinton never, and GW Bush every year. He is not the first President to not observe the event at the White House. He did issue, and has every year, a proclamation for the NDoP and observances have occurred around the nation.

“October 19, 2010 – Obama begins deliberately omitting the phrase about “the Creator” when quoting the Declaration of Independence – an omission he has made on no less than seven occasions.” Ronald Reagan made the same omission in his 1986 Martin Luther King Jr. Day Proclamation speech. D. D. Eisenhower also omitted the phrase in one of his speeches in 1960 and Calvin Coolidge even omitted it in his speech on the 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

“February 2012–The Army orders Catholic chaplains not to read a letter to parishioners that their archbishop asked them to read.” True, but several days later, after a discussion between the Army’s Office of the Chief of Chaplain and the Archbishop, it was determined that the letter would be redistributed and read from the pulpit. The original concern was that one line could have been “misunderstood as a call to civil disobedience within our nation’s military ranks.”

It would appear that Barton has a problem with twisting facts to fit his agenda, or even disregarding facts that don’t fit. Listen, whether Obama turns out to be a good President or not, (history will tell) one thing is clear…there are now no limits to what either side will do or say to discredit the party in office. It is sad. I think the entire system, and those currently in it, need to be cast out and let us all start from scratch again. I don’t believe this is what the founder’s had in mind. As a matter of fact, it wasn’t too long ago when you would go to jail for buying a politician into office, now it is the only way they get in–regardless of their party affiliation! But the mud-slinging, the antics and the misrepresentation has just gotten so far out of hand that it is beyond sad. At least I know that I belong to a Kingdom not of this world and my Leader doesn’t have to be elected and holds no party affiliation!

  13. 1. Acts of hostility toward people of Biblical faith:
■April 2008 – Obama speaks disrespectfully of Christians, saying they “cling to guns or religion” and have an “antipathy to people who aren’t like them.” Rebuttal: Has very little or nothing to do with Christians, or religion in general. What Obama said: “You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them, and they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.” Not a bit as incriminating as the propaganda intends to betray.
February 2009 – Obama announces plans to revoke conscience protection for health workers who refuse to participate in medical activities that go against their beliefs, and fully implements the plan in February 2011. Rebuttal: Health care professionals do not have the luxury to dictate or object to procedures that a person legally has the right to obtain.
■April 2009 – When speaking at Georgetown University, Obama orders that a monogram symbolizing Jesus’ name be covered when he is making his speech. Rebuttal: What really happened: The White House wanted a simple backdrop of flags and pipe and drape for the speech, consistent with what they’ve done for other policy speeches…Frankly, the pipe and drape wasn’t high enough by itself to fully cover the IHS and cross above the GU seal and it seemed most respectful to have them covered so as not to be seen out of context.
■May 2009 – Obama declines to host services for the National Prayer Day (a day established by federal law) at the White House. Rebuttal: Really? It is not the law that everyone must pray on this day. It is a day like Thanksgiving… everyone is not mandated to observe it. All religions have prayer, and Obama does pray. If Obama chooses not to “host” a service, that is his perogative…it is not required by law that he do so. In the past, the practice was a political one! Barton’s statement continued: “Obama has hosted dinners celebrating the Muslim observance of Ramadan”. What he neglects to say is that such events continue a tradition started by President George W. Bush, who held eight such dinners.
■April 2009 – In a deliberate act of disrespect, Obama nominated three pro-abortion ambassadors to the Vatican; of course, the pro-life Vatican rejected all three. Rebuttal: Editoralized: “deliberate act of disrespect” ? – a spin sure to cause a stir in the religious ranks. Does anyone think that Obama assumes that an ambassador is going to have an effect on the Vatican’s stance on abortion, or that he would even try? Rediculous! Pure propaganda!
■October 19, 2010 – Obama begins deliberately omitting the phrase about “the Creator” when quoting the declaration of Independence – an omission he has made on no less than seven occasions. Rebuttal: It is a non-issue. The Declaration of Independence is what it is, and whether Obama quotes it verbatim or paraphrases does not alter it. He may use the opportunity to demonstrate his personal belief in the “”separation of church and state”. The criticism by the right is not unexpected nor exceptional, and is another demonstration of their pettiness. How desperate!
■November 2010 – Obama misquotes the National Motto, saying it is “E pluribus unum” rather than “In God We Trust” as established by federal law. Rebuttal: LOL! “E pluribus unum”: Latin for “Out of many, one”—is a phrase on the Seal of the United States, along with Annuit cœptis and Novus ordo seclorum, and adopted by an Act of Congress in 1782. Never codified by law, E pluribus unum was considered a de facto motto of the United States until 1956 when the United States Congress passed an act (H.J. Resolution 396), adopting “In God We Trust” as the official motto. Let he who has never “gaffed”….
■January 2011 – After a federal law was passed to transfer a WWI Memorial in the Mojave Desert to private ownership, the U. S. Supreme Court ruled that the cross in the memorial could continue to stand, but the Obama administration refused to allow the land to be transferred as required by law, and refused to allow the cross to be re-erected as ordered by the Court. Rebuttal: OMG! This has nothing to do with the Obama Administration. It is a suit filed by the ACLU and has been in and out of the courts since 1989. The ACLU has no government affiliation. As a matter of fact, they are constantly fighting government policies.
■February 2011 – Although he filled posts in the State Department, for more than two years Obama did not fill the post of religious freedom ambassador, an official that works against religious persecution across the world; he filled it only after heavy pressure from the public and from Congress. Rebuttal: Could his stalling have anything to do with the fact that polictics and religion do not mix? Many people of faith know this. It is a major reason for the mess the world is in today. Too bad he relented. Another post to be argued, stalled, paid for, and otherwise cause problems.
■April 2011 – For the first time in American history, Obama urges passage of a non-discrimination law that does not contain hiring protections for religious groups, forcing religious organizations to hire according to federal mandates without regard to the dictates of their own faith, thus eliminating conscience protection in hiring. Rebuttal: If religious institutions want to make policy, receive people-hood, and limit (under auspices of faith) what a person can legally demand in health care, then stop taking tax-exempt status. Maybe then you would deserve a say. Religious institutions ask “what can our country do for us?” and never, never, ever “what can we do for our country?” (even tho they have strong lobbyist influence that the average American does not enjoy). Maybe we can exclude religious institutions from using our roads and highways (for example) and other “public” services because they do not pay taxes. The United States is not the Vatican.
■August 2011 – The Obama administration releases its new health care rules that override religious conscience protections for medical workers in the areas of abortion and contraception. Rebuttal: You are repeating yourself. Health care professionals do not have the luxury to dictate or object to procedures that a person legally has the right to obtain.
■November 2011 – Obama opposes inclusion of President Franklin Roosevelt’s famous D-Day Prayer in the WWII Memorial. 12 Rebuttal: Total hogwash; never happened. Just because you keep slandering and libaling Obama, does not make your accusations true; even if the “sheep” are willing to believe anything anti-Obama. Shame!
■November 2011 – Unlike previous presidents, Obama studiously avoids any religious references in his Thanksgiving speech. Rebuttal: Again, total hogwash! November 16, 2011, explicitly mentions God and providence numerous times, including: “As we gather in our communities and in our homes, around the table or near the hearth, we give thanks to each other and to God for the many kindnesses and comforts that grace our lives.”
■December 2011 – The Obama administration denigrates other countries’ religious beliefs as an obstacle to radical homosexual rights. Rebuttal: I do not even know what that means.
■January 2012 – The Obama administration argues that the First Amendment provides no protection for churches and synagogues in hiring their pastors and rabbis. Rebutttal: The case: Cheryl Perich, violated church doctrine by suing the church. She went on medical leave, forcing the school to find a replacement. Perich insisted on being able to return midyear despite the position having been filled. The EEOC ordered Perich to be reinstated. For decades, federal courts have applied a “ministerial exception” to federal employment laws for pastors, priests and rabbis. Precedent was being challenged. Churches want to pretend they have Vatican-like status by not having to adhere to laws of the land.
■February 2012 – The Obama administration forgives student loans in exchange for public service, but announces it will no longer forgive student loans if the public service is related to religion.Rebuttal: Proselytizing (and that is the objective of religious service) is not public service work. Public means public. Look, you already receive tax-free status; count your blessings!

    2. Acts of hostility from the Obama-led military toward people of Biblical faith:
■June 2011 – The Department of Veterans Affairs forbids references to God and Jesus during burial ceremonies at Houston National Cemetery. Allegation is distortion and spin. Rebuttal: Truth: the families must approve the religeous references and text in advance. Should grieving families be subjected to religious context that is not appropriate to their beliefs just because they were not asked?
■August 2011 – The Air Force stops teaching the Just War theory to officers in California because the course is taught by chaplains and is based on a philosophy introduced by St. Augustine in the third century AD – a theory long taught by civilized nations across the world (except America). Rebuttal: More right wing prevaricating – this does not belong on Obama’s plate…. the missile officers themselves objected to the fundamentalist Christian doctrine that “war is a good thing.” It is as outdated as the “Ron Paul doctrine”.
■September 2011 – Air Force Chief of Staff prohibits commanders from notifying airmen of programs and services available to them from chaplains. Rebuttal: Truth: July 2010 Air Mobility Command launched the Comprehensive Airman Fitness (CAF) plan with the goal “to strengthen and sustain a culture of balanced, healthy, self confident Airmen and their families whose resilience and total fitness enables them to thrive in an era of high operational tempo and persistent conflict around the world. Spiritual does not have to mean religion. Some people get their strength from their religion, but not everyone. Some people get their spiritual strength from other places such as yoga class or nature walks. CAF defines spiritual fitness as having hope and faith as well as a sense of purpose and meaning.” For Airmen and their families who are seeking a more “religious” based spiritual fitness, Air Force chaplains are referred to them and are there to assist them.
■September 2011 – The Army issues guidelines for Walter Reed Medical Center stipulating that “No religious items (i.e. Bibles, reading materials and/or facts) are allowed to be given away or used during a visit.” Rebuttal: Truth: Was not a policy initiated by Obama and it was rescinded in December 2011.
■November 2011 – The Air Force Academy rescinds support for Operation Christmas Child, a program to send holiday gifts to impoverished children across the world, because the program is run by a Christian charity. Truth: Rebuttal: Again, has nothing to do with Obama. This was a fight between Cadet Commanders and Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF). This program had nearly become compulsary and the cadets were being “strong armed” by senior Cadet Commanders. Barely a day goes by without MRFF receiving numerous complaints against those who are constantly trying to turn our military into “God’s Army.”
■November 2011 – The Air Force Academy pays $80,000 to add a Stonehenge-like worship center for pagans, druids, witches and Wiccans. Rebuttal: Truth: Again, nothing to do with Obama. Christianity is NOT the only religion! Chaplain Maj Darren Duncan: “We’re here to accommodate all religions, period; the building of the Cadet Chapel Falcon Circle on the hilltop, is no different from the past conversion of chapel rooms into worship spaces that serve this year’s 11 Muslim, 16 Buddhist and 10 Hindu cadets. There are also 43 self-identified atheist cadets whose beliefs, or lack of them, are also to be respected.”
■February 2012 – The U. S. Military Academy at West Point disinvites three star Army general and decorated war hero Lieutenant General William G. (“Jerry”) Boykin (retired) from speaking at an event because he is an outspoken Christian.Rebuttal: Please read article “CAIR JOINS VETS IN ASKING WEST POINT TO DISINVITE ANTI-ISLAM SPEAKER”. Christianity is not the only religion in the US and it offensive and scary that Boykin should express an opinion that “Islam should not be protected under the First Amendment,” that there should be “no mosques in America” and that there can be no interfaith dialogue or cooperation between Muslims and Christians. An American Theocracy is not an option!!!! AGAIN, nothing to do with OBAMA!
■February 2012 – The Air Force removes “God” from the patch of Rapid Capabilities Office (the word on the patch was in Latin: Dei). Rebuttal: I doubt that Obama had any knowledge of this when it was decided or implemented…however it is an excellent example of the minutia and pettiness that clogs our democracy and government…garbage, garbage, garbage. Christians vs Atheists arguing over a grain of sand!
■February 2012 – The Army orders Catholic chaplains not to read a letter to parishioners that their archbishop asked them to read. Rebuttal: True, but several days later, after a discussion between the Army’s Office of the Chief of Chaplain and the Archbishop, it was determined that the letter would be redistributed and read from the pulpit. The original concern was that one line could have been “misunderstood as a call to civil disobedience within our nation’s military ranks.” and again, nothing to do with Obama!

  15. “there is plenty of evidence on the internet that proves he is a liar”….I read this quote everywhere, but I really can’t find anything. Honestly, in all the interviews I’ve heard him speak he is incredibly bright and has an amazing ability to recall historic information. The only real arguments I’ve heard against him are things like “he twists words” or “takes things out of context”….but then it seems the person making arguments against him are just taking HIS words out of context! I’m honestly looking for a reason to dislike the guy, but from a purely unbiased standpoint he seems on point…which is why I think he and Stewart have such great discourse.

  16. The liberals who have posted here, like so many others, use big words and small ideas to support the leftist Obama, who, if allowed four more years as President, will do more damage to America than can be corrected over the course of many decades.

I’m not a great fan of Mr. Barton, but I agree with him that Mr. Obama does not, has not, and will not every have the “best interest” of America in his heart nor his policies.

The progressive/liberal/leftist agenda is to tax the working, fool the lazy, and consolidate power at any cost.

  17. thank you all who diced all this spam into intelligent discourse. I am rebutting a letter to the editor which cites many, many of Pastor Barton’s dogmatic rantings and this has been a great help to me. It is so unnerving to see how religion is used to propigate hatred and governmental adherance to only that which believers, believe. This is America, and like it or not-we have ALL religious freedom. Not just that which fits into our own person beliefs.
