Former Texas legislator Rick Green, a speaker for David Barton’s Texas-based WallBuilders organization and Barton’s sidekick on the daily WallBuilders Live radio program, clearly has a pretty low opinion of people who receive food stamps. In a repellent Facebook post last week (image below), Green compared people who receive that government assistance to wild animals who become dependent on food from humans visiting national parks:
What a country…
The food stamp program, part of the Department of Agriculture, is pleased to be distributing the greatest amount of food stamps ever.
Meanwhile, the National Park Service asks us to “please do not feed the animals” because the animals may grow dependent and not learn to take care of themselves.
Never mind that the country is digging itself out of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. Most of us — but apparently not Green — might expect that public aid for struggling families would be higher than usual. What’s really astonishing here is the sneering contempt that Green has for those families.
Green and Barton claim WallBuilders promotes Christian values and what they see as America’s Christian heritage. We fail to see such values in Green’s disgusting attack on the poor and unemployed.
What an ignorant moron. Have you ever seen someone shopping with food stamps at the store? I have and if anything they look pretty embarrassed about it. They are quiet and polite and just want to get the hell out of the spotlight.
I have never seen anyone at the store come dancing in waving a bunch of food stamps shouting, “Party!”
Rick Green should be ashamed of himself but I know he’s not. It takes a conscience for that.
This moron is a Republican I’d bet.
People like this should keep their mouth shut, and I bet he gets some kind of public assistance.

Unfortunately he is right that it is quite ironic. I’m not saying helping the less fortunate is at all a bad decision on our countries part, it is in our nature to help people in need. But we have completely stopped the cycle of evolution dead in its tracks when it comes to our species. They say not to feed the animals because they are dependent upon themselves and in turn continue to evolve. Killer whales have recently learned to work together to create waves and turbulence in the water in order to catch seals and penguin and this form of evolving would have never come about if we had people feeding them all day. I don’t think that he meant in any way to make a connection of people to wild animals just to point out the interesting fact that these updates come in unison with eachother while projecting such contrasting statements.
Actually humans are animals. According to wikipedia, “Humans (Homo sapiens) are primates of the family Hominidae, and the only living species of the genus Homo. They originated in Africa, where they reached anatomical modernity about 200,000 years ago and began to exhibit full behavioral modernity around 50,000 years ago.” Also all the signs have shown that humans that become wards of the state suffer a damaging dependency of the variety suffered by ‘wild’ animals. Native Americans who have free housing, food stamps, child care, healthcare, schooling, burials, etc. also have the highest poverty rates, 75% unemployment, lowest life expectancy. Meanwhile tribes like the Lumbee who are not recognized by the government have none of these problems and live in neighborhoods much like any modern suburb.
