Transgender Day of Remembrance gives us a designated time to hold space to honor the memories of people from the transgender community who have tragically lost their lives to violent, cruel, anti-trans attacks.
As we sit in our remembrance, we cannot ignore how the transgender community, including children and their loving families, continues to be consistently harmed and targeted by hateful policies in our state. We will fight endlessly to make Texas a place where all transgender people are safe, embraced, and free to live as their full selves, including Black and Indigenous Transgender people of color—who represent 81% of the lives lost in the United States just in 2022.
Beyond today, we will be here to uplift the beautiful and powerful presence of transgender people in every way we can—continuing to help dismantle the transphobia that’s stealing lives from our communities. In that hope, we’re amplifying resources, mutual aid groups, and LGBTQIA+ organizations in Texas to help our community actively honor Transgender Day of Remembrance.
