TFN Launches Statewide Petition Campaign Supporting Stem Cell Research
TFN Releases Early Petition Names as House Committee Hears Testimony on Stem Cell Research in Texas

The Texas Freedom Network has launched a statewide petition campaign urging legislators to protect and promote medical research involving both embryonic and adult stem cells, TFN’s president announced today.
TFN President Kathy Miller delivered to House State Affairs Committee members a list of 1,700 Texans who have already signed on to the petition campaign, which was launched just this month. The House committee was meeting to hear testimony on proposed legislation regarding stem cell research.
“This phenomenal response so early in our campaign shows Texans believe passionately that science and hope shouldn’t take a backseat to politics,” Miller said. “It’s time for the Legislature to move forward on this promising research and give hope to families suffering from serious illnesses.”
Scores of Texans have signed on to coordinate petition efforts in legislative districts across the state. The campaign will continue into the 2008 election year, Miller said.
TFN supports medical research involving both embryonic and adult stem cells. Experts believe that medical research involving embryonic stem cells offers the best hope for cures and treatments for serious illnesses like Parkinson’s disease, juvenile diabetes and spinal cord injuries.
