Mission

TEXAS FREEDOM NETWORK

Founded in 1995, the Texas Freedom Network is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization of more than 150,000 religious and community leaders who support religious freedom, individual liberties and public education. Based in Austin, TFN acts as the state’s watchdog for monitoring far-right issues, organizations, money and leaders. The organization has been instrumental in defeating initiatives backed by the religious right in Texas, including private school vouchers and textbook censorship at the State Board of Education.

As the resource of record on the religious right in Texas, TFN has become a trusted source for a wide range of news outlets in the state and across the country, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, National Journal, TIME, Los Angeles Times and Huffington Post. TFN spokespeople have been featured on news programs from all major broadcast and cable television networks as well as National Public Radio (NPR) and popular public radio programs. International news outlets such as the BBC and others in Australia, France, Japan and elsewhere have also sought out TFN as a reliable resource.

The Texas Freedom Network is a 501(c)(4) tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation.

TEXAS FREEDOM NETWORK EDUCATION FUND

Founded in 1996, the Texas Freedom Network Education Fund supports research and civic education efforts that promote religious freedom, individual liberties and public education. The TFN Education Fund is widely recognized as an influential think tank in Texas. Our growing library of original research has become invaluable to policymakers on a wide range of church-state and education issues, such as the faith-based initiative, public school Bible courses and sex education.

The TFN Education Fund’s Texas Rising program also trains emerging grassroots leaders and activists on university and college campuses across the state. Additionally, through our project Just Texas, the TFN Education Fund organizes and mobilizes clergy and Texans of faith to formulate a faith-based response to the religious right’s policy agenda and advocate for reproductive freedom and LGBTQIA+ equality.

The Texas Freedom Network Education Fund is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation. Contributions are deductible for federal income tax purposes.

TFN’S DEI AND ANTI-RACISM PROMISE

If we are to be successful in building an inclusive and equitable society for all people in Texas, we as an organization must also confront our own policies, practices, and systems that lead to different outcomes based upon these factors.

TFN is pledging to be fully committed to advancing anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion work both internally and externally. Read our DEI and Anti-Racism Promise.
