AUSTIN, Texas — Melissa Ross, Mingyuan “Michael” Wei, and Estevan Jesus “Chuy” Zárate, a progressive slate endorsed by Texas Freedom Network, yesterday won their races for Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees.

Texas Freedom Network endorsed the candidates for their proven commitment to defending public education and fighting to fully fund our neighborhood public schools, teaching the truth, creating educational environments that uplift all students, and supporting and retaining our dedicated public school educators.

Texas Freedom Network Organizing Director Seneca Savoie (he/him), issued the following response:

“Every vote counts and every election matters. We’re proud of the Round Rock community for using their power at the ballot box to elect trustees who will put the needs of our students and families first. Texas Freedom Network endorsed these candidates because Ross, Wei, and Zárate will champion policies that fully fund our public schools, advocate for Black, brown, and LGBTQIA+ students and families, and uplift our dedicated public school educators.

“Kids in our neighborhood public schools deserve a fully funded education where educators can teach the truth without fear of political attacks. Yet time and time again, we’ve seen our public schools thrust into divisive culture wars at the Texas Legislature, the State Board of Education, and even local school boards. This election is a win in the fight to preserve public education and keep the religious right’s influence out of our public schools. We’re excited to keep advocating for students in partnership with the Round Rock community and our allied trustees.”
