How did we miss this?
In an open letter to his fellow Republicans last December, Texas GOP king-maker — and anti-gay, religious right zealot — Steve Hotze lays out an argument for why his party should refrain from demonizing Latinos — basically because “Hispanic culture in America is Christian, pro-family, pro-life” and (by the way) Republicans need their votes to win future elections.
Ok. Even if his motives aren’t entirely altruistic, we can at least respect Hotze’s effort to promote tolerance and multiculturalism, right? Not so fast.
“Gentlemen, it seems that the real problem we face is the Muslim immigration invasion of America. The Hispanics are our natural allies against the Democrats and Muslims.”
Wow. If you absolutely have to direct your hatred and xenophobia at someone, for God’s sake, make it the Muslims. They don’t vote in nearly the number as Latinos do.
The underlying bigotry always comes through, doesn’t it?
I don’t know how many more of you got it, but Marian Hennings , in the “(Don’t )Focus on the Family” post passed along a tip on another religious freedom outfit in Colorado, the Citizen Religious Freedom Institute, which is just now finding its legs. While we work here in Texas against idiocracy, I think we’ll all be stronger if we get a good solid national community built around religious freedom.
It is necessary to hate in order to get the blessings of Jesus. Otherwise, one couldn’t tell the difference from love and hate.
Wow. So it’s all about picking the right minority community to hate and scapegoat.
Not Hispanics; they’re Christians. Well, many of them are.
Let’s attack Muslims– nobody likes them.
And if Muslims should start voting Republican, well, we can always go after the Zoroastrians.
Just substitute the word “Jews” for Muslims and it will take you back not very many years in America when Jews were heavily discriminated against. My father was a University of Pittsburgh graduate with a degree in finance. When he applied for a job at AT&T when he graduated in 1930, he was told to his face, “AT&T doesn’t hire Jews”. And in those days, they didn’t.
People who are anti Muslims may as well be anti-semetic. Shame on ’em. They need to re-read the 1st Amendment–IF they ever read it the first time.
