We thought TFN Insider readers in the Austin area might be interested to know that the Human Rights Campaign and Equality Texas will screen a Sundance award-winning film that explores the intersection of faith and LGBT rights and lives next month in Austin. The film, “Love Free or Die,” is about Bishop Gene Robinson, the first openly gay person to become a bishop in a Christian denomination.
This free event starts at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 22, at Central Presbyterian Church in Austin (208 East Eighth Street). Following the film, HRC and Equality Texas will present a panel discussion with Macky Alston, the film’s director; Rev. Dr. Cindi Love, executive director of Soulforce; Rev. Joseph Moore, pastor of Central Presbyterian Church; and Rev. Dr. Brad Braxton, the Lois Craddock Perkins Professor of Homiletics at Perkins School of Theology. Soulforce is an organization working to end religious and political oppression of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people.
