What is Texas Rising?

Texas Rising is a movement of young, diverse, politically engaged Texans working to leverage our power through community organizing, electoral politics, and public policy advocacy.

As 25% of the electorate, we're organizing to hold our public officials accountable to all Texans, not special interests and the voices of intolerance and division.

Texas Rising is advocating for sound public policies that address reproductive rights, voter suppression, and LGBTQ equality.

Together we can build a better Texas. Join us.

The 2016 Texas Rising Summer Institute will take place in Austin from Friday, July 29 to Sunday, July 31.

As our movement grows, so does our need for strategic and high capacity leadership. The 2016 Texas Rising Summer Institute is the event for TFN student activists to take their organizing knowledge and skills to the next level.

This years training will focus on the history of the progressive movement and what’s at stake in the 2016 election. Together we’ll explore our values and what it means to be a progressive. We’ll cover the rich history of grassroots movements in Texas, especially as they relate to systems of power and oppression. With an understanding of our movement’s past, we’ll focus on developing a collaborative plan to build power in our communities and at the polls in November.

As always, TFN recognizes the need to make these trainings accessible to all of our student leaders. TFN will cover 100% of travel, lodging and food during the event. In turn, by registering for the training, you are agreeing to attend the entire event. Once registered, TFN will purchase nonrefundable goods and services on your behalf. If you cannot attend… Read More

Texas Rising, the Texas Freedom Network’s project to engage young people in the political process, relies on some incredible individuals doing great work on their college campuses and in their communities all across the state. We’d like to introduce you to some of these amazing young activists advocating for a better, more fair Texas.

Today we’re profiling Holly Doyle, the president of Texas Rising at Texas State University in San Marcos.

What issues are you passionate about? My main focus during my time with TFN has been abortion access advocacy. Abortion access has been under constant attack since long before I moved to Texas, so this work is always timely and necessary. I am very interested in making the conversation around abortion as inclusive as possible. Cisgender women are not the only people who can get pregnant and might need access to abortion services. Expanding the conversation around abortion to include transgender individuals is something I have worked towards ever since I was hired on as a campus organizer by TFN. Right now the Supreme Court of the United States is reviewing Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, a case examining the constitutionality of HB2, Texas’ omnibus anti-abortion bill passed… Read More
